Who We Are

Overview

100 Women Who Care --MKE Metro West began in January 2016, joining over 200 other chapters of 100 Women Who Care in the US. We are a group of local SE Wisconsin women interested in joining together to support our local communities.

As individuals we feel it is difficult to have an impact; but, as a group, we have the ability to make a great impact on the Milwaukee Metro West area in ways that we never before thought possible by ourselves.

The total we have contributed since our founding eight years ago is over $245,000--contributions that have helped citizens in our communities live better lives.

Our History

The first 100+ Women Who Care organization was founded by Karen Dunigan in her community of Jackson, Michigan in 2006 as a brilliantly simple way to raise money efficiently and quickly for local charities/non-profits/worthy causes.

Their first donation was to a Center for Family Health—providing cribs to low income mothers. Finding strength in numbers, other groups of women throughout the country have started their own “giving circles” and found similar successful experiences in their communities.

Now, 100 Women Who Care has extended to: 100 Men Who Care, 100 People Who Care, 100 Businesses Who Care, 100 Kids Who Care groups and so much more. There are currently more that 700-1000 Who Care giving circles making a huge impact in local communities throughout the world.

Mission

The Mission of 100 WWC-MMW is to bring together, for one hour every four months, at least 100 women who each contribute $100 to a local charity, chosen in that one hour, that will make a significant difference in our communities. In 2019 we gave three charities $29,200--Kathy's House, Association for the Rights of Citizens with handicaps, and The Women's Center of Waukesha. In 2020, despite the pandemic, we gave $33,920 to local charities to help our neighbors.

Officers

How We Work

Here are the guidelines we use to meet our goals:

  • Each member must commit to donating $100 per meeting ($300 per year). Teams of up to four members may be formed to split the cost, but each team is allowed only one vote and one charity nomination.

  • 100 Women Who Care--Milwaukee Metro West is an open and affirming organization and does not discriminate. All are welcome regardless of race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, disabilities, age or gender identification. It is our expectation that any 501(c)(3) organization proposed as a recipient also adheres to these values.

  • Only members up to date on their charity donations are permitted to nominate a charity and to vote by ballot to select the winning charity.

  • Charities are submitted to 100 Women Who Care--MKE Metro West by members only. Each member may have one local charity available for consideration at any given time, and the nomination must be made at least ten days ahead of the next meeting date to allow for vetting and approval.
